About The Event
MISSION MISSIVE: FIRST GRAND EXPEDITION (227th Expedition from Roera)
From the desk of Primarch Zeix Amaranth, on behalf of the Council
Esteemed members of the 227th Expedition,
You stand at the threshold of a momentous journey as the first Grand Expedition to the Eternal Lands. Though you are the 227th to embark from Roera's shores, the stakes have never been higher.
Your primary objective is to construct and activate the first long-distance portal in the Eternal Lands. This groundbreaking device, designed by the Consortium, has been successfully tested three times from the farthest reaches of our continent. The Consortium, a powerful organization of merchants and craftsmen, was instrumental in preserving Roera's stability during the Great Sleep and developing our current portal technology. Their expertise in this field is unparalleled. The proper setup of this portal is crucial, as failure would jeopardize not only your return but also the safety of future expeditions.
We entrust you with the majority of our Shattered Storm containment spheres, which will serve as the fuel to set up this new portal. These priceless artifacts are essential for erecting and powering the portal, and must be guarded at all costs. We've included extra spheres in case of emergencies, but any unused must be returned to Roera.
A portal consumes magical energy in two ways: activation and remaining open. It can be closed and reopened to conserve energy, but operates in only one direction (from the location it is opened at, to the new location). This new design by the Consortium that uses the contained Shattered Storms as fuel is revolutionary: it can be activated for less energy, but it must be opened from our side at the Spire compound in Roera. Your task is to construct the portal, fuel it with the Shattered Storm spheres, and ensure it's ready for activation.
We will open the portal for your return at the sixth morning hour on the eighth day of Septiri from the Spire compound. It is imperative that you have the portal structure complete and prepared by this time. If the attempt fails, we will consider the mission to erect the portal a failure, and you will be on your own to find a way back to Roera. The possibilities for your return without the portal are too numerous and unpredictable for us to plan a safe extraction.
To ensure efficient execution of this mission, each faction will be assigned specific facets of the expedition. The Eye of Antiquity, the Teeth of Noor, and the Hand of Tomorrow will each have distinct responsibilities. Your faction leaders will divide and conquer the tasks required to accomplish the mission objectives once on the ground. This approach will allow us to leverage each of your unique strengths and expertise.
Your secondary objectives, which we expect will carry on to future expeditions, are as follows:
- Recover the manifest, names, and if possible, bodies of those aboard the Dragon's Breath.
- Record any findings related to the previous 226 Expeditions.
- Research, study, and record information about any Nightmares you encounter. Be wary, for these creatures warp the world around them in strange ways. Our experiences showed that Nightmares require careful study to be effectively combated or killed. Moreover, we discovered that these entities seem to have a home "nest" or "gate" that must be destroyed using specific, yet unknown, rules to truly eliminate them. During my expedition, we faced Reflections; unseen entities that hunted the dying; and a silent, unidentified creature that ultimately forced our retreat. However, I must emphasize that the Meon's crew did not manage to take out any gates or nests; we merely survived our encounters. By the time we encountered the silent entity, our numbers had dwindled significantly, leaving us with few resources to properly study or combat it. This lack of manpower, combined with the creature's mysterious nature, forced us to make the difficult decision to risk returning to Roera.
- Create comprehensive reports of all your findings. We lack historical and applicable context of the Eternal Lands. This first expedition is primarily to find what questions we need to be asking. Records are of utmost importance.
I must stress that my memories of the Eternal Lands are fragmented due to long-term exposure to the godstongue used on the Meon's hull during our return journey. This is precisely why establishing a direct portal is crucial - we cannot risk exposing you or future expeditions to godstongue on ships, especially as it proved ineffective for the Meon in the long term. Your detailed records may also help clarify some of my hazy recollections, potentially providing valuable insights for future missions.
Your courage and dedication will shape our future. Stay vigilant and united. May the echoes of the dead gods guide your path, and may you uncover truths that have eluded us for centuries. The fate of Roera rests in your hands.
Event Timeline:
You can arrive on site as early as 4PM. Do not come to Ops, we will be doing set up for the game. Check-in time will be announced (likely 7p-8:30p) - bring a copy of your character sheet to check in. Your Faction Leads will check you in. Opening announcements will be at 9:30PM. You should already be checked in, in kit, and ready by this time. Opening annoucements are expected to take 45 minutes, at which point each of your factions will go to your designated place of deploying into the game from your ships.
Workshops and character connections will be on Friday night from 5PM-8PM. These workshops will have designated spaces organized by character connections (such as your faction, culture, and places of interest that you may have met before).
We will go to San Jose in Elizabethtown together once the camp is cleaned up on Sunday, and a debrief of “what happened” will be posted online after the event. There will also be a PEL (Post Event Letter) for you to fill out after the game.
